BT Vision Review online
Radio and Telly's review of BT Vision, the home TV and on demand video service, is now online. To find out more about BT Vision, to see screenshots, and to get your questions answered, see http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/btvision.html
BT has brought a fantastic product to the market place. A great piece of kit in the Phillips manufactured PVR, which although not as user friendly as a SKY box, is still pretty damn good. Coupled with on-demand tv and Premiership football from Setanta this is an offer you can't afford to miss.
Or is it?
The biggest problem that BT has is it's exceptionally poor customer service. I recently ordered BT vision and after waiting 2 weeks for the engineer visit, I was told that no engineer's visit was planned but they could get someone out within a fortnight.
Come on BT! You can't afford to treat customers (existing or new) like this.
What BT is offering isn't unique, there are plenty of websites offering IPTV streaming, and now Talk Talk is offering Vision IPTV service with a free freeview box and 2 months free Setanta subscription. Virgin media has a whole variety of packages to choose from, and SKY (although I begrudge paying for adverts) can offer everything BT can and send an installation team on the day it says it will.
It all comes down to personal choice, (I have opted for a top-up tv box which means I can't record TV but I can still watch Setanta sports for £10, which is £2 cheaper than BT, and I will be able to set up all my equipment and be ready for the new premiership season before BT even bother responding to my complaint!).
So is it worth it?
Yes, if your one of the lucky ones who actually get what BT say you will get then I don't think you will get a better deal.
No, if BT get it wrong, then it's nothing but anger, and death by hold music waiting for someone at BT to answer your call, and a longing to have followed your gut instinct all along and went elsewhere.
Excellent product; unfortunately customer service, billing enquiries, infact if you make any enquiry to BT, be prepared to be disappointed. I have recently spent about 15 hours ringing BT in an attempt to resolve a number of simple problems.
