The product page link offers the extra HELP GUIDE link here:

http://intempo.clickdontcall.co.uk

Have you saved that as some Internet Favourite or Bookmark?

Others could do very well by buying the item now, even if for test purposes.

Likewise, the Virgin Media Broadband speed upgrades help many of us to get better Internet access.

I'm reminded that £100 isn't worth as much as just a few years ago, so that's another reason to buy this year. Some may delay to just before Christmas to get an extended home trial like last year. That was for about 6 weeks.

The FTP settings for the IPlayer were always based on the ISP or website's FAQs settings info and always worked OK. I select a file from some USB device, press green for Options, then copy, then left arrow exit to select one of the websites listed as already set up. I then selected the appropriate ISP's phone number eg Supanet or Freeola. The site loads with direct listing, or a directory called htdocs, into which I must use green press again, then paste into a selected directory eg htdocs or htdocs then the directory for images and so on.

The same situation can be done with a PC's FTP programs like Core FTP Lite or Pro. That's how I uploaded a copy of a Google cache webpage explaining Fetch TV's latest software versions and their zip archive links.

LOL Not saying it doesn't work but if you look at the way the evolve transfere files to forums and other sites it's easy. Regarding the 'Help' pages there's no need to save it as a favourite as the help screen is on the main home page of the Evolve! Where's Motty have you seen him on the forum recently? The making of this device was long over due and according to thier logo 'It's Just
the begining' Smiley

If he receives notifications by email for selected topics, then perhaps he is still following this discussion.

I've seen some forums that allow images as attachments. Is it correct that set top box stored or USB stored images can be added to emails such as with yahoo? In some cases, large file sizes shouldn't be sent and there are online resources to reduce the file size eg jpgs with greater compression. BMP files are sometimes quite large eg digital camera images and these could be converted to 80% compressed jpgs instead.

While the making of the device was long overdue, I believe the making of a proper full size QWERTY keyboard for it is even more overdue!

Some PC users do use a slim, cut down, QWERTY keyboard as an alternative, while the shopping channels have also sold jumbo QWERTY keyboards with giant size characters for ease of use.

The Intempo Evolve keyboard makes me wonder if I'd use the top of a pencil to tap the QWERTY buttons with.

Even so, with a £100 price range, a PC style USB QWERTY keyboard would be useful and maybe an extension cable for it would be required, too.

Since we know of UK and US keyboards, we need to verify the default is UK or US once a keyboard is connected ie check each character symbol along the top row plus along the right edges of the rest of the rows.

It would have helped if the makers had provided an updated list of keyboards tested for UK customers, especially as several websites offer QWERTY keyboards for less than £20.

The Help Pages linked here recently include a search option eg keyboard.

I noticed that the main screen settings also allow a language change as has been provided on other set top boxes. Menus and instructions being modified to assist others, yet it dowes help to be able to compare the different instructions, language by language in case the UK language jargon is required to know as well.

Language setting:

Link: intempo/changing_the_language

QWERTY keyboards can produce lots of foreign symbol characters, but whether these are easy to use with an Internet device is another matter.

HTML codes for each character may be used in website designs and & is used to replace & in helping Internet links remain accepted for HTML Validation checks.

I quite agree with this statement. The Keyboard remote touch pad is a bit of a let down if it had been made the same size as the device then this would have helped in a big way Smiley each key is approx < 2mm square if you are partialy sighted then you would need to invest in a magnifer of some kind!!! The other let down is you have to toggle between mouse and scroll mode by using a button on the remote (bad design IMO) so if you are still in scroll mode you can't click on a link to action that link. So you are constantly switching modes. Yes Intempo should have tested other
keyboards for compatability even if it was only a handful tested this would be better than nothing.

as most people know Android uses Apps ( I don't particulary like them cause some of the permissions can cause users problems)
Any way went in to the  menu and there was already 4 installed Apps BBC IPlayer Catch up TV
and  ITV Player so signed up for the ITV Player service now the problem is not the formats the videos are in but when I try and play one A Android message pops up saying this service
needs a wireless connection to get access to the internet?? I don't have any problems with any other websites that I visit using the Intempo Evolve
Just the ITV Player service. The Evolve allows 2 options to connect to the internet 1. Ethernet.
2. Wireless I choose Ethernet as my prefered connection! So natrualy I expect to connect to the internet via what method I have used ITV Player don't seem interested in correcting this problem either Intempo seem to be bothered but say it's down to Google Apps to correct this problem!
I did try going directly to ITV.com via the website and not the App and it seems to default to the same page as if going via the App I could fully understand if the Evolve was a phone but it isn't!
Is there a work around to solve this stupid connection issue?? Thanks in advance Smiley

The wireless setup was mentioned as part of a customer review for the Intempo Evolve here, nb priced at about £70 +P&p?

LINK: morgancomputers.co.uk... Intempo-Evolve

The 12-month warranty helps us to decide if worth considering against the brand new bid tv price of £100.

Notice the configuration options for ethernet or for wifi.

The item can easily be advertised or promoted as having ITV as an app, but it should be more precisely described as wifi only, before we actually buy the product, only to learn this later.

Misleading potential customers is going to lead to more product returns even when sold for half the launch price.

5 star ratings become meaningless when buying at about £70+ instead of £200+ and there may be more customer feedback on other websites to consider.

Any configuration difficulty may be subject to a call to the maker's helpline, but apps are a different matter. Can a non PC customer set up wifi around the house? Will extra equipment be required?

Any Google feedback ie from those in the know about Google apps? Can the apps be created as alternatives for ethernet customers, too? If not, why not? Is there some weird and wonderful reason that wifi is preferred or was that because the designer or designers of that app were using wifi?

Has Intempo Evolve any input regarding such a strange limitation on their promoted apps for this item?

Surely in a pre-Christmas gift-giving bonanza period, sales would improve if the ethernet issue were resolved and the help section updated with the news or if a software update fixed this ITV issue?

Well you wouldn't go far wrong if you did buy one and Denis M has found some great prices
for around £100 or less Smiley which is cheaper than what I paid at around £129! If it was a bad device and I would have said don't touch it with a barge pole!!! Overall it's a great device and 8 out of 10 is my score Smiley It's compact in design! And I am  using it it on a daily basis too!

Well I am pleased to say there is a very good work around for the ITV Player App I have succesfully signed up to www.tvcatchup.com service where I can watch any Freeview channel/programme with out having to unplug my ethernet connection as this would be a pain everytime I wanted to view ITV programme content! it's obvious to me that ITV don't want invest in problems that are associated with the ITV Player App there is a lot of complaints on the ITV website regarding this APP over 10 pages! So Iam not bothered about it and will uninstall it Smiley
I have let Ultimate Products know of this work around to use the tvcatchup pre installed App instead it's far easier to have a site that allows all
Freeview channels/programmes to be viewed in stead of using individual Apps for various Freeview channels IMO And there's even a older version
of the ITV web player should the current one causes any problems during viewing of a programme and that's pretty smart Smiley 10 out of 10
for the tvcatchup App!!!!!!!

Helpful feedback on ITV workaround provided by the tvcatchup website. Use forum search for previous details for this:

http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?board=internet

I've seen Ebay auctions for Intempo Evolve and buy now prices from £50, but without an official Intempo Evolve warranty cover, I'd be concerned about this item and its additional features.

In the past, I've tried buying 2 of the same item at the cheaper prices eg the BT version of the Netgem Iplayer and the Funai DVD Recorder plus the Fetch TV 7000 Smartboxes. The ebay items could last the same or even longer than brand new items, so there are advantages that way. For families, with extra ethernet connections to the Internet eg via the VM Superhub, there would be extra opportunities and a faster learning curve in the sharing of what each one explores on the Internet plus the apps and the games.

If not already owning a PC, the Intempo Evolve is a link between an Internet set top box from a few years ago to a PC, without the extra need for all that antivirus software and bloated software programs on the hard drive.

If £50 or £70+ prices aren't yet spicy enough, some ebay auctions start very low and some will pay even less even with postage added, but I'm not keen on any warranty cover, unless it's backed up by the company itself.

It would help to learn more about which UK USB keyboards are suitable for this item.

I wonder if it's possible in the last 2 URL's if Pete could included www.tvcatchup.com in this line up as it could easily replace all the main ones like BBC IPlayer/ITV Player/Ch 4 on Demand/Ch5 catch up service which apparently in the basic
instruction manual for the Intempo Evolve says this is coming soon to the Evolve but I have had my device for around 12 months and yet the Tvcatchup App takes away all this worry so I believe it's worth a mention on either of the 2 URL's you have posted!! Regards! And again I have to be clear on the warranty period this info is from Trading Standards And I have used this piece of legistration on my Funia DVD Recorder which went wrong after 12 months I got the info from TS's who told me provided I hadn't opened the unit or modified it in any way you are covered for 6 years from the purchase date I called Pound Stretcher who have never heard of this legistration and after checking it out the called me back and authorised a repair on my Funia for me Smiley Regards
