3D TV Thread
Apr 20th, 2012 at 1:07pm

Hi. I'd like to suggest a thread in the forum for 3D TV. It seems to be becoming ever more popular.

Starting a new topic can be done OK, but maybe the request is for a Forum Board to host topics in, such as UK General. Admin could set that up.

Obviously I meant a forum board. Goes without saying.

Judging by the interest shown so far one thread is more than enough.

I don't think you can judge based on interest shown amongst existing participants, the core of which is very small. This may be an opportunity to encourage more people to join the radioandtelly forum which would be great.

This week's Gadget Show World Tour compared 3 of the 3D TVs and the required 3D glasses, sometimes bought separately.

Presenters compared sharpness and contrast and prices and ageed the Sharp 3D TV was the best, even if the 3D glasses were bought separately.

The presenters did the usual over the top test that I couldn't see as completely valid enough for the viewers to agree with. We had to rely on their on-site evaluations so it was useful that both presenters agreed that they preferred the Sharp TV, even though it was the cheapest.

The Channel 5 website will have updates on the show.

Large screen 3D TVs may have special deals this weekend, so check the High Street if interested in upgrading.

Free 3D glasses and 3D Blu-Ray Player with every 3D TV from Comet:

Maybe some voucher codes online for further savings. At gree-D 3D TV prices, you'll really need to get a discount.

Update:

The latest Groupon Deal for a Finlux direct 3D TV is here and it's way cheaper...

You have to be careful when buying a 3D TV. The technology isn't quite there yet. Always try the set out (preferably in a shop) before buying. The big debate at the moment is active versus passive TVs. I'm active and happy being so. Whereas, for example, most of my christian friends, are more inclined towards passive, especially my catholic friends for some reason.

You just don't know unless you try both. Those who don't always wish they had, but having made the commitment, try to hide their curiosity of the alternative from friends and family. It just leads for a pretty miserable life, always wishing you tried the alternative and with it always being in the back of your mind. You'll see people on forums trying to vent this frustration with verbose, ridiculously long postings in forums. Sometimes the postings appear to be directed at wives, who are also aware of the conflict in their husbands, and who often accuse them of making an expensive mistake in which the whole family suffers (due to the bad viewing experience obviously).

The VM Tivo box EPG showed Eurosport 3D coming soon on channel 523. From May 27th to 10th June, requiring a Tivo, V HD or V+ HD Box and a 3D TV with 3D glasses.

I've never seen a 3D TV with 3D glasses... That would be quite a spectacle.

Recent 3D on Sky adverts say this week 13th to 20th August is a free 3D on Sky week. That means it isn't free unless you've got the Sky+ HD box Sky subscription as well as a 3D TV. But channel 217 Sky 3D awaits those with the 3D glasses...

The basic Sky+ box merely displays To receive HD call 08442 410006. Even so, there are the websites offering cashback deals eg MyVoucherCodes and quidco and topcashback and by subscribing, emails get sent to update us of deals for existing and new Sky customers.

http://www.sky.com/shop/tv/3d/

The RT News has been updated to explain the 3D offer and gives tips on recording the content, possibly to be able to view it later...

Having just shown a wealth of Olympic material in 3D (including the Closing Ceremony), and having screen Planet Dinosaur 3D, the BBC are planning to show The Last Night of the Proms in 3D.
