No signal and no channels
Jun 15th, 2012 at 12:34pm

I have a Sony HXD-870 DVD Recorder that has worked like a charm up until this month, now suddenly I find that it has no signal and can't pick up any channels. I have checked the cabling, re-scanned for channels, and reset the recorder, but still nothing.
The Freeview channels are coming from a rooftop aerial where I live (which by the way my TV is also connected to and it picks up Freeview with no problem).
I want to be able to record Freeview channels on my DVD recorder again. Does anyone know what else I can do?

Does the aerial loop through the DVDR to the TV?

Have any connections been changed recently?

How old is the DVDR? Its power supply or tuner may be failing.

Are you sure you are recanning for Freeview channels and not for analogue channels as this model can do both?

The aerial is looped through the tv as per the manual, and I have checked the signal from the same aerial to the tv. I have had the unit for three years, and have checked the cabling recently to make sure it works , also made sure I am scanning for digital channels. I'm out of ideas.

I am not inspired with confidence by this that the aerial feed is connected to the DVDR correctly.  It should be

Aerial  --> (RF In)DVDR(RF Out) --> (RF In)TV

Sad to say I am suspecting the tuner in the DVDR has failed.  Which would leave you in the same position I am know with my analogue-only tuner DVDR but I still find a use for:  As a CD/DVD player and to copy recorded programmes from a PVR to then edit out ads etc and burn to DVD.

So the question then becomes what PVR should you get?
