fetchTV Still Going

I know the receivers were called in some time back but Fetch still appear to be going.

Does anyone know if anyone bought them out.

Google search has a top tab for NEWS. A search for Fetch TV and Administration could lead to updates beyond the AVForum discussion, part 7 and page 13:

On visiting the Fetch TV homepage I saw that the Sky Go service was still part of the promotional content even though cancelled recently. There are Freeview channel screen logos in an out-of-date scrolling display so don't except to find all those TV channels there or all the up-to-date TV logos either as should have been provided eg with MENU + GREEN for the Interactive Services online updates.

Also get ready for disappointment visiting the SHOP section as items are out-of-stock.

The last software upgrade turned out to be just that as we've had nothing new since 2011.

Fetch TV's own video-on-demand services continue should anyone wish to view some of the film trailers before ordering anything or getting any subscription.

Broadband customers with the likes of Virgin Media will be able to get the benefits of faster speeds, but will still have to cope with intense advertising delays on the Internet regardless of speeds.

While it's possible to access many Internet websites from a basic Google search or from our saved bookmark Internet Favourites, we still get some box crashes that mean resetting the boxes and losing those numbered bookmarks.

Many modern websites favour the extreme widescreen displays and the fetch tv homepage has to be reduced to about 80% even on my 800x600 PC screen display.

The use of dropdown links means smaller text displays that won't work well on our TV screens, so we may have to adjust brightness, contrast, colour and sharpness for finer text displays, even if just for temporary purposes.

Remember that there's no customised wireless keyboard as for the Netgem IPlayer so if we do get some connected cable USB keyboard, we may have a lot of experimenting as to which character is obtained from so many different button presses.

USB flash drives and hard drives still get the USB runaround of not being recognised till everything's turned off and restarted.

The Media Centre display screens don't always load up properly so we have to exit and try again later.

Not all recordings actually play, maybe we have to clear all the others out just to test those awkward recordings later or then give up and delete them.

Timeshift can be switched on or off temporarily, but if space permits, I'd rather leave that working.

Some Internet video playback gets blocked by onscreen displays before they finally get off of the screen. Short playbacks hardly get a look-in.

Regular MY RECORDINGS exporting reduces time checking page after page of recordings, some with the wrong programme details, some with incredible time lengths. It's worth viewing these first to see what can be re-recorded before deleting the original with various shows that were being recorded for hours at a time.

The timeshift also needs checking, not that easy as we must reverse to the very start-off point and view from there so we can manually record any selected shows we find. If anyone switches channels, we get those shown instead...

Thankfully, I didn't pay £180 for my Fetch TV Smartboxes. Without Sky GO, they won't sell as much on Ebay now. That means better value if buying the larger hard drive versions eg the 8160 or the HD8320 boxes.

I think Fetch TV has had its day. Essentially people aren't happy with a mediocre on-demand service any more. If you look at TiVO and Sky+, you should either go all-out and buy a decent OD service, or save your cash and go Freeview.

Equipment list: Freeview HD box with a big glowing button, TV with a screen, Blu-ray which says "See You" when it goes into standby, glasses which make pictures leap out at me, sound all around, stuff

I didn't buy it for the FetchTV service, I was attracted by the box itself, multi-room viewing was the main reason.
