bbc iplayer problems on wifi/4G, but not cable ISP

greetings- listening in New Jersey to the BBC-
the BBC iplayer only plays for a couple of minutes before cutting off when Im on a wide area/wifi wireless connection (of which the bandwidth is supposedly around 12 Mbps..up and down; when measured using the usual sites it seemed in the order of 21/5)
Have a windows 7 laptop. this happens both on IE 9 and ff 12.
Any insights would be most appreciated
