Internal faults, strange noises? It's difficult to reassure any customer upon these situations starting or getting better and repeating later.
If not reported quickly, the seller has legal rights, too. Full refunds are not guaranteed if customers don't alert the sellers about faults.
Customer Helplines offer technical advice regarding feedbacks alerting them of faults even if limited to different batches and so on.
Replacements from the same store with a whole batch of the faulty items won't help anybody, especially long distance customers with no on-site warranty cover.
AV items are vulnerable to how each part operates, even weak power batteries affect product performance from one action response to the next.
Products sold may not even be using the latest software upgrade and sometimes these also involve the internal fan noise or hard drive self-checks or remote control responses.
Over the air upgrades or early morning upgrades may help, so leaving AV items on overnight can help maintain their ongoing performance.
With repeated autoscans or manual scans we may still get weaker or duplicates channels added to the set top box's system.
Upgrading cables eg recommended WF100 satcure website cables has helped me with various Freeview boxes etc.
Weak reception or atmospheric conditions alter reliable reception for some or all channels, hence the need to monitor performance, checking percentage values eg signal strength/picture quality.
I rescanned this week to get 113 SD channels, but if I had the HD set top boxes with recorder features I'd be better off testing with then without signal boosters. These vary, too. Some only offer a slight power gain improvement. Unfortunately, some sensitive set top boxes may need a few days to actually function properly after disconnecting and reconnecting cables. Maybe switching the set top box off and switching on again restores the signal strength and picture quality percentages.
I'd never want to rely on just 1 Humax set top box. I'd be testing 2 of these in upstairs and downstairs locations, just in case. Otherwise, I wouldn't even buy the 1 Humax at all.
That's how I've used 2 of the same BT IPlayer set top boxes as well as upgrading to 2 of the Fetch TV Smartboxes. Likewise with Sky+ HD with Sky+ upstairs. Having backups limit errors, as some Freeview recordings don't even start. I've suggested recording the +1 channels as backups for those with 1 Freeview+ recorder.
These hard drives work better with few recordings than dozens left there, so I copy off as many as I can to USB hard drives which the Humax also allows for.
As the weekend approaches, I'd get this item returned and replaced, so as to record the weekend programmes. Having recorded shows on hard drives already will limit customers to have this option as they must copy off existing shows first. If not possible this weekend, then maybe next weekend.
By the way, some USB hard drives also make noises that put customers off and customer reviews on the seller's website may alert us of these potential faults.
