Some Freeview equipment requires the setting to the channel 80 BBC NEWS before running an autoscan or clearing channels beforehand. The manual scan option depends on the equipment itself.
http://www.tvretune.co.uk/productmanualsI checked the DVD Recorders and Sharp has a few listed. Please visit and check the model number if this applies to your Freeview receiver.
The PDF instructions for channel 80 retuning can be followed from the Retune Instructions PDF link, but sometimes there's also a PDF for the user guide, too, with zoom in options on text and graphics.
If this updated retuning info works, please confirm the autoscan channels received eg I get about 117 SD channels on an SD Freeview set top box.
The recent ones include Argos TV on 55. Dave and a few others changed channel numbers between 12 and 20.
Wednesday's retune also includes updated numbers now from 100+ to the 200+ range.
I chose to hide the foreign channels and radio and subscription channels using the FAVOURITES option thus hoping for the EPG GUIDE channel zero display to improve.
Feedback re model number and if you get all channels.
Your postcode check here will provide the manual scan numbers eg I tune to 29, 54, 56, 57 and 61 with 58 for HD channels.
http://tinyurl.com/wolfbane-freeviewApart from the channel 80 info, you can check the current status of the channels received. I check the details using the MENU, HELP, DIAGNOSTICS and TV SIGNAL. I can verify the statistics against previous stable picture quality percentages between 80% and 90% values.
The common wideband all-frequencies aerial may get weaker reception for the lower frequencies so there may be a need to use a variable signal booster.
The problem is, that transmitters have increased signal strengths and some signals are too strong. The wolfbane website shows local transmitters and signal strentgh power values helping us decide. If too high, we could use variable attenuator units as adapters fitted just before the aerial connector goes into the Freeview equipment.
My purchase of one of these proved an immediate 10% to 20% loss which wasn't necessary for my aerial, just for test purposes.
See
http://www.satcure.co.uk which has a search eg variable attenuator and I've also upgraded with the WF100 or WF 100 cables with securely-fitted connectors of various lengths.
Attenuator:

Even the TV Shopping channels like bid tv sell indoor signal boosters and antennaes. Since my transmitter increased signal strength I was able to disconnect an upstairs' signal booster as it was no longer required.
