iPlayer Access Speed
Sep 21st, 2012 at 11:20am

I have a ADSL connection at 15 Mbps but when I do the iplayer speed test it comes up at 900kbps or less.  4OD and ITV appear to be  similar when i use YouView box.
Any ideas?

Check your router. Do you have the latest firmware?

If using wireless connections, how far are you from the router?

Have you tried doing a speed test with a wired computer? If this comes up slow the phone your Internet provider.

How far are you from your telephone exchange I am only 1/2 a mile away and I get 5Mb from a 10Mb service. So if you are only getting around 900kb/s then some thing is wrong. Personaly make sure all other devices are not connected to the interent and just connect 1 device and do a speed test and let us know the results!

Can I just re-iterate that BBUK is right, you must personally make sure all other devices are not connected. Please don't rely on others, otherwise this might jeopardise your speed test. Smiley

And please do publish your results here. It helps us (me, BBUK, Denis Martindale, Martin Pickering and the rest of the posters) gain further understanding which might be offered in advise to others. We're all a bit like a super computer, whose output is only as good as its input Smiley
