Digital station ourkindofmusic has been removed from the digital radio platform.
The station was available until today on the local DAB multiplexes for Bristol and Bath, Swindon, Reading and Basingstoke, and Southend and Chelmsford.
The station started in 2005 and featured jazz and easy-listening music from the likes of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Gershwin. The station was set up by radio veteran Eddie Blackwell, former Chairman of Essex Radio and director at GWR.
Apparently the station will continue as an online Internet service available at www.ourkindofmusic.net – you can listen online, or using a Wireless Internet Radio.
Update 28 Nov 2009: Website for Our Kind of Music no longer appears to be available.

We are so sad to learn that this station has been taken off the airwaves. We love it, as do so many others. It plays some of the best songs ever made and we would so love it to be put back on the air.

Very sad to see this go… Really hope it comes back

Come on all of you – not everyone has a computer but many are now getting DAB. Without a doubt this station is one of the best in the UK and needs to be brought back on to DAB.
Stop assuming everyone has a wish to listen via computer. Please bring it back onto DAB for the fareness of all.

Great shame that this station has been removed. Without doubt the best station on the DAB airwaves – please bring it back! Ashley (Essex)

Pity, but it was inevitable eventually: no adverts means no money.
Now the only reason to listen on DAB has gone.

Very sorry that you've decided to cease broadcasting on DAB radio. You'll be sorely missed. Please keep it going on the Internet at least, until you bring it back on the radio!!!

It was a joy to listen to, and I made it into a game/quiz for myself each time I heard a song, to see if I could guess right, who was singing etc.,
I was devistated when I went to listen to my favourite station, that it was off air, I thought it was something to do with the signal. I introduced my friends and family that live in Basingstoke, and felt sorry for those who could not receive this fantastic station.
What can I do to bring it back, write to anyone?
I echo everyone by saying "please, please, please, find a way to bring back this amazing, fantastic music station.
Yvonne Bloomfield (Basingtoke).

I bought a DAB radio to listen to a programme called 'Prime Time'. As soon as I got my radio it was taken off air. I'd just got used to tuning in to 'Our Kind of Music' and now that's gone. There's nothing for the over 50s. Great shame.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:11 am
My Mum has loved listening to the station and asked me to look into why it is not available – gutted to have to tell her she won't be able to listen anymore – as others have said, especially with the type of music, some older folks are not into computers – PLEASE BRING IT BACK TO DAB. Fingers crossed.

I am so sad to find this excellent station is now off-air. Why doesn't the BBC sponser it on DAT? One of the beauties of the station was the absence of adverts. Please, BBC, step in and relaunch!

Why when anything good comes along like 'My Kind of Music' does somebody somewhere pull the plug.
Whats the point now of owning a DAB radio without being able to listen to MKoM.
Please do the honourable thing and bring it back
December 12th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Please bring it back, best there is (was). Can somebody please tell me why it has been taken off DAB, especially when some sort of broadcast (which I cannot access) continues to be made.
December 13th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
I am a professional musician and used to tune into this brilliant radio station. It provided the perfect music for the musician. I so badly miss it and hope that somebody somewhere will find a way for it to be made available again.
Please, please try and find a way of making this fabulous radio station live again. There are many many more like me who share my views. It should also be considered to be broadcast nationally.
December 14th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Please bring back 'Our kind of Music' it was the only station on the radio which provided easy listening. There are far too many stations with current 'pop' music and apart from Jazz FM this was the only choice.

December 15th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
Please bring Our Kind of Music back: indeed it was the only reason why I purchased a DAB radio in the first place.
December 16th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Such a shame it's gone off air. It was a breath of fresh air! Why has it gone? You could have left a message online to say! Great disappointment.
December 19th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
I have only found Our Kind Of Music recently when I went over to a broadband connection. Of all the musical tastes on the internet this is the one I like, no adds, or talk, just great music.

What have you done, why are we being told on one hand by our wonderful Government that Dab is the future of broadcasting and on the other great radio stations like Our Kind of Musics are deserting DAB.
Come back to DAB we all miss you. DL

Listening now online…lovely..
want it back on DAB. how many more people have to ask to bring it back. It should be broadcast nationally.
January 6th, 2010 at 9:28 pm
My wife is severely disabled and her only pleasure in life was to listen to "Our kind of music" all day. The continuous music was just the kind of music we used to dance to when we were young. Why did you take the station off air when it was obvious that so many people loved it. Please, please put the station back on air and bring happiness back to my wife. Ken

I have just come across this station on the internet, and I really like it. The only thing I miss is the titles being broadcast. Thanks for the music anyhow. Zsuzsa from Hungary

Sorry to see it go. But always wondered how it could exist with apparently no income. I would like it back if possible.
January 26th, 2010 at 6:12 pm
I keep attempting to tune to Our Kind of Music on my DAB radio in the vain hope that it will come back on air. Used to love listening to this, especially in the evening when cooking dinner – nice, relaxing muisc from yesteryear without annoying presenters or adverts. It’s sadly missed. I’d even put up with adverts if it meant it got the funding to bring it back on air.
January 28th, 2010 at 7:50 pm
Why! oh why! have you taken away the only program I listen to none stop every day , and the only reason I bought my Dab radio…Please bring back My kind of music
January 29th, 2010 at 10:49 am
I only listened to two Internet radio stations – BBC Radio 4 for news and current events and Our Kind of Music. So far, I have been unable to find an alternative to Our Kind of Music. Surely, someone must know who made the decision to drop Our Kind of Music. I´m still trying to find out. I understand that a group of DAB radio stations, including Our Kind of Music, was bought or acquired by a company, which is the start point for my search.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE bring back ‘OUR KIND OF MUSIC’, which was so nice to listen to, and was the reason for me to buy 2 DAB radios !!, which I’m sure will soon wear out now having to keep select another station with fewer adverts.
