YouView Boxes Now Available

YouView LogoFinally, YouView boxes are now available, but at £299, we’re not sure how many folk will be dashing out this weekend to buy one.

The first box to be released is the Humax DTR-T1000, and here’s what it offers:

Humax DTR-T1000

Humax DTR-T1000 is a combined Freeview receiver, HDD recorder and Internet TV box. As you’d expect it has the ability to pause live TV, offers instant rewind capability, handles series recording and can record two Freeview channels at a time. It also boasts Split Recording, Green button trailer booking, and Smart recording to resolve clashes.

The 1000T has a 500GB hard drive for up to 300 hours of standard definition TV, or 125 hours of Freeview HD.

If you want to be one of the first to get your hands on a YouView box, they’re available now online at the following stores:

If you’re not keen to shell out £299 for a YouView box, waiting may pay dividends, as subsidised boxes are on the way. We can expect a box from BT soon, and you can now pre-order TalkTalk TV, who will throw in a free YouView box if you sign up to their Broadband Plus service.

There’s still a very strong feeling that YouView may have missed the boat, and with similar services already in homes, have the delays in getting YouView out the door meant that anyone looking for the Freeview + Internet combination, have already found one of the many existing solutions? Time will tell.

We’d love to hear from any of our readers you’ve got, or are thinking of getting, a YouView box…

I was looking forward to upgrading my old Freeview non HD PVR.As I still have the occasional requirement to run a DVD I was very dissapointed that Humax are not providing this facility with their Youview box.
Guess I wil just have to upgrade my Freeview box.

I will not be buying the new humax DTR-1000T YouView DTR-1000T set top box because like the standard humax freesat it will not record & play back sub-titles – essential for those hard of hearing like me!

you could have made it cheaper

I was disappointed to learn that the catchup services aren’t fully integrated with Youview. You leave the Youview experience to go to Iplayer, 4oD etc. These catchup services should have been part of a dedicated Youview catchup portal.

And what’s the point of an internet-enabled PVR that has no built-in wireless n?
    .
    Fail
