Kent and Sussex Switchover dates announced

Digital Switchover LogoDates have now been announced for much of Southern England’s digital TV switchover.

Key dates for those in the Meridian TV region have been announced as follows:

  • Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey – 8 Feb 2012
  • Parts of West Sussex – 29 Feb 2012
  • Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, parts of Dorset and West Sussex – 7 March 2012
  • Brighton area – 7 March 2012
  • East Sussex – 30 May 2012
  • Tunbridge Wells area – 30 May 2012
  • Hastings area – 30 May 2012
  • South and East Kent – 13 June 2012
  • North and Mid-Kent – 13 June 2012

On these dates, viewers can expect to start losing their analogue service for BBC1, BBC 2, ITV, Channel 4 and 5. To continue watching after the switchover, viewers will need to use a service such as Freeview, Freesat, Sky, Virgin or BT Vision.

According to the Digital TV Group website, once the switchover is complete in these areasm the power of the local Freeview transmitters will be increased, and homes in the following areas will be able to get Freeview problem-free for the first time: Ashford, Canterbury, Eastbourne, Hailsham, Margate and Newhaven.
