No more SeeSaw

SeeSaw, the video-on-demand Internet TV service that promised “a great place to watch TV”, has closed.

The service launched in 2010, offering a mix of TV content from the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 that could be viewed over the Internet. SeeSaw was originally formed from a proposed service codenamed Project Kangaroo, which was reinvented after being blocked by the Competition Commission in 2009.

As we reported in June, SeeSaw was set to close earlier this year, but received a last-minute reprieve in the form of an offer from private equity firm Criterion Capital Partners.

It seems that the deal failed to go through, due to funding issues, and the service closed at the end of October 2011.

The TV and Video-on-Demand market is a very crowded one, with the YouView service set to join the fray at some point in 2012. If you used to watch SeeSaw, and are looking for an alternative, please take a look at our Internet TV section for the options.
