Not great - not worth the money    Post Date: Nov 24, 2005

Review:
The box is ugly. They skimped on the scart leads. The menu is ugly, as is the guide. They're both hard to read and on badly designed backgrounds and didn't allow you a preview of the channels (there wasn't even any cheesy music like you get on Sky(!)). The digital subtitles were jumpy and slow and didn't even play on some programmes which support them. Other boxes are better. You also can't rewind if they're on (subtitles also not displayed on play back). 30 seconds is only good if you missed what a character said, but other than that a bit of a gimick. I took it back after just 1 week as the screen kept freezing and going to a completely purple screen! Not happy!

Review:

I guess it was my fault for not looking, but hadnt realised there were no scart leads in the box.

Fairly easy to install. My next issue was the remote - the buttons are set out awkwardly, and the volume didnt seem to work. I also found the menus a little hard to see. The background on all menus is a light blue sea scene, making the white writing unclear and hazy.

I am impartial about the rewind tv - although it's a bit of a gimmick it does work for 30s...might be useful - not sure. Also like the idea of the calendar function, although I can only get now and next so it was of no benefit without a 7 day schedule which I am assured will be broadcast shortly. The guide(now/next) did not update all night - very frustrating.

Furthermore text didnt work, so I couldnt find out what was on!

The box does however have potential, especially with the guide, but I didn't find it particularly user friendly and was annoyed by the lack of refreshing and the annoying remote. And it's a bit ugly!

Review:
Compared with my old Panasonic TUCT20, using the same other gear, the Fusion gave a misty picture, poor sound volume, and had no RF modulator (to tune into TV/VCR without SCART lead -this is a relatively expensive extra with the Fusion). I did not find 30secs of playback was long enough to be of any use

On the other hand mine may have been a poor example. I notice that reliability reports vary for the same models and this factor seems to be confused with discussions about software reliability. It could seem to be more to do with quality control and one wonders what happens to all the STBs which seem to be returned - I usually get blamed for having a poor aerial, so perhaps they just get put back into circulation!
