Post Date: Jun 04, 2005 Reviewer: Tezza72uk from Oxford UK - See all reviews by Tezza72uk Review: I am very pleased with the performance and reliability of this box. It has not crashed, or blanked for the 6 months I have had it. For £40 from Woolworths it was a bargain compared to my Sony VTX800 that cost £100. The only feature I would of liked would be to skip channels I don't want to view. I have now bought one for my daughter, and to date that one has not had any problems and is happy to work on an indoor aerial. |

It frequently freezes. (8 times in 4 weeks) The front panel didnt work when first used. the remote off button didnt work either. suddenly after many unpluggings it started to work, When it freezes it must be unplugged and often looses all channel data taking 20 minutes to re-tune and then you have to program it all over again the menu system is very cumbersome and channel changes are very slow. Program guide is laughable. The "program guide" is a joke. Midnight to 1.30 am doesnt exist in real time. My digital watch must have more memory. And the guide broadcast is pathetic. They took a week to notice British summer time so everything was an hour out of synch. But lets face it - freeview is a total rip off with no real channels at all. Just completly pointless "teletext" channels and broadcast frequencies that are only on 2 hours a day at 6 in the morning. the whole thing is pathetic. My box is going in the trash instead of wasting electricity. |

The Echostar has an issue where the screen will go black for a few seconds while the audio carries on playing. This is seemingly random and varies in frequency to the point where it can become very annoying to the viewer. The onscreen menu background is reasonably translucent but is horribly dark orange colour with black text. This can make the text difficult to read if there is a dark image on the TV picture. The access to digital text services is slow; it takes up to 10 seconds to load a page on BBCI and even longer on Teletext. In the 6 months I’ve owned the Echostar it has ‘only’ crashed 4 times, requiring a power on-off cycle at the wall. This problems make the box poor in comparison to others, but it’s potential to work well prevents it receiving 1 star. |
