So far all my real-time transfers to DVD have been fine, and the picture quality as good as the original. Finding your way around the menus takes a while, but once everything's sunk in it all seems pretty logical. Finally, the DMREH60 is reasonably quiet in operation (as is the DMREH50). You're aware of a cooling fan starting up when you switch the machine on, but the noise is not intrusive, nor is it present (as seems to be the case with some Freeview hard-disc recorders) when the machine is in standby mode. |

The picture is superb, both for watching and recording. Because the HDD is big (200GB) I've used only SP quality (one down from best), but with my previous -EH50 (80GB) I regularly used LP (two down) and it was perfectly watchable. The guide is a bit cumbersome, a lot of scrolling necessary. You can reorder the channels to suit your viewing, but annoyingly it reverts to the default next time. Recording from the EPG is a doddle: click on the programme and it becomes an entry on your timer-recording list, complete with title. Then add a few minutes to the stop time if you're worried about an overrun. (Shame there’s no PDC with digital TV.) The DMREH60 is not a PVR, in the sense that it does not allow you to "pause live TV". But you can watch the start of a programme that’s still being recorded.
