Details of the Humax HDR-Fox T2 – The first High Definition Freeview Recorder released by Humax.
Humax receivers and recorders always generate a lot of interest – they’re generally loved by those that use them, and a new Humax box always generates some interest.
Humax’s first Freeview HD receiver, the HD Fox-T2 was well-received when it was released in 2010, but of course, it lacked a built-in recorder. This was addressed with the release of the first Freeview HD recorder from Humax – The HDR-Fox T2.
Eagerly awaited by those looking to get a Freeview HD PVR, the HDR has had some impressive reviews, and is a great machine that’s able to record 125 hours of subscription-free HD.

The HDR-Fox T2 has an 8-day EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) and has an Ethernet socket on the rear to allow connection to an Internet router (for access to BBC iPlayer)
The Humax HDR-FOX T2 also enables subtitles, digital teletext, and interactive features. It’s Freeview+ compliant and comes with an HDMI cable.
It has a USB socket, supports playback of audio, video and JPG images, and supports playback of streaming media (DLNA compliant) over a wired home network.

To use the Fox T2, note that you need the following:
- An HD TV set that has a spare HDMI socket
- To be in a Freeview HD coverage area
- To be able to connect the box to a working TV aerial that can get a Freeview signal

We had the following feedback on this model of Freeview recorder from Alan Williams, a listener to our podcast:
I have recently purchased a Humax HDR-FOX T2 1TB. With the exception of a small glitch which caused the unit to freeze when attempting to use the ‘Find’ facility in the EPG it’s an absolutely fabulous piece of kit. An OTA software update quickly sorted this problem. Sadly I can’t yet comment on the HD picture quality as I won’t have an HD Ready TV until January. However the SD quality when viewing on my old Sony CRT easily outstrips my previously installed Humax PVR9300T which will now be used at my static caravan.
If a comparison is made between the two units, the FOX T2 does everything the 9300T does – only better – albeit sometimes slightly differently. The EPG sorts out conflicts, flags up when a selected programme is available in HD and also, when appropriate, recommends additional programmes of same or similar genre. You’ll probably gather that I’m well impressed and at this juncture would highly recommend this unit.
