Why no TALKsport ?
Nov 21st, 2003 at 1:06am

Considering that talksport was the first commercial station to go digital and is the number 1 commercial station in the uk, why are they not on freeview ?

Talksport is the only Radio station i listen to anymore.

Ian Collins on the weekends is the best thing on radio, but i feel he hasn't reached the standard that he was during his "Creatures of the Night" show.

but i was extremly dissipointed not to find it on freeview.  Sad

An oddity indeed!,  no Talksport on Freeview, on AM it's free, on DAB it's free, on Sky it's part of the Family Package and therefore you pay, perhaps they just can't make up their minds whether they are a payed for or free channel!
It would certainly make sense for them to go on Freeview as their signal on AM after dark is absolute crap down here (East- Kent).

Smileygoing to eventually get myself a DAB digital radio, just waiting to let the scene pan out a little and then read a few reviews and take my pick, until then i'm quite content to continue listening to talksport on 1089AM as i live in london and the signal is very strong on my little old sony fm/am radio.

Even though it is free on AM and DAB, due to the fact that its part of a pay package on Sky may have something to do with it not becoming free-to-listen on Freeview.

I know people have e-mailed TalkSport about coming to Freeview, all to little success.

Mind you to totally contradict my last post, we have some TV channels on Freeview that are pay channels on Sky (ITV2, Ftn etc). Maybe someone could confirm that.

I understand that talkSPORT & (until recently) BBC 5Live are not free-to-air stations on SKY is because they only have sports rights for Britain.  With the right equipment, SKY can be received in some parts of mainland Europe.

That would make sense  Wink But then this would not be a problem for Freeview as it is not possible to receive it on the continent, so the reason it is pay on sky couldn't be an excuse for it not to be on Freeview.

Interesting.

Talk Sport reception in late evening not too good here in West London even!

However, only thing I listen to on Talk Sport is James Whale and Mike Dickin, which are not sport content, and excellently non-PC.  Oh and Charlie Wolf, but by then I'm in bed anyway.   Grin

Ian Collins is the worst presenter on Talksport in my opinion.

Should have been sacked a long time ago.

In all fairness, because the government want DAB to take off, it is in there interests to ensure that the 'major' players on the DAB scene (i.e. TalkSport, Classic FM etal) remain solely on DAB, rather than going onto Freeview which wll one day be in 20 million+ households.
