Have a sony dab 6650 unit and am well pleased with it however I am about to change my car and want to transfer the unit across. The problem is the DAB aerial which is stuck like the proverbrial to a blanket and refuses to come off in one piece. Can anyone suggest where  can obtain a replacement or substitute that will fit Thanks Undecided

I don`t think you will be able to buy a replacement. But! the sticky clear tape is just purely a means to hold the thin wire in place on the glass so if you were to carefully cut down the tape besides the wire with a sharp stanely knife so that you can release the wire then all you will have to do is basically is restick the wire to your new windscreen. To be honest even if you broke the wire but was able to get the central plastic connector off then as long as you measured the length of the two pieces of wire and replaced them with two equal lengths of new wire the system would work just fine. Don`t worry about the new wire being thicker( thicker is actually better because it makes the band that it recieves slightly broader and if anything will give you maybe slightly better reception(certainly not worse) the reason the wire is so thin is to not impede your vision when driving.
If you aren`t able to salvage any part of it then there are other ways to fit an aerial to that radio but for God`s sake don`t let the thin coax than runs from the aerial down to the radio go, you will need it(or more to the point the small push on connector that fits on the back of the radio) with that connector and a length of the coax fitted to it you will be able(if needed) to connect coax from a different aerial to the set.
I reckon if you take your time with a sharp knife you can get the assembly off of the screen and then just use cellotape to refix it to your new car and then you will be able(with care) to scrape off the old tape and discard.
Remember, there is nothing special about aerials for DAB, they just have to be the right length for the frequincies on Dab and have to be mounted on the vertical. I haven`t tried it but am 100% sure that two equal lengths(as the original length) of single insulated wire(like bell wire) tucked into the trim at the side of the screen will do just as well(as long as you refit the central connector as is.
Hope it helps but come back if you need to.

Dave

Well I received the 6650 as a birthday present the other week Smiley

It's absolutly great, however due to one of these new heat reflecting windscreens I opted to buy a new arieal fro Panorama antennas (www.panorama-antennas.com) ; and fitted it on Friday. (it has a SMB connector at the back of the 6650 not the usual one btw )

Saturday drove from the West Midlands up to Hull, and it never lost signal once!!

Very impressed, thaks Panorama!

I've transferred my Sony DAB6650 to a new car, and at the moment, it's FM only as I've yet to install a DAB aerial.
The car has an athermic windscreen which renders the simple vertical stick-on interior aerial useless.  So I'm looking at an external glass mounted aerial.
My Sony DAB6650

There seem to be a few external glass mounted aerials about:
JVC HAL4, Blaupunkt BLA-8626000530, Panorama GMDAB3L-5F

I take it you bought the Panorama to use with the Sony DAB6650.

Now lots of questions!

Did you install the aerial yourself?
On which window - front, side or rear?
Any issues/complications getting the aerial to stick to the glass?
Can the whip be removed for the car wash and security?
Does mount allow for the whip to be tilted to an appropriate angle or is it fixed?
Was there a problem with the Sony DAB aerial connector?

Cheers, John.
