When eBay sellers offer Funai DVD Recorders, then I’m interested in testing these and their remote controls that are being sent, too. Some items include the User Manuals, but we can get these on the Internet as PDF User Guides or User Manuals. Some remote controls are the official ones, but over time, some keys or buttons may not work. Then we try other Funai remotes to test if they help or not. So that’s what I had to do just to access different Menus and Sub Menus. Otherwise, we buy new ones with the same model numbers. I noticed a remote control repair website, but we might as well buy a remote control and then have two instead of one.
Secondhand recorders may still have recordings on a hard drive, and once checked, we may delete these are dub to a DVD-R disk or disc, and then delete the originals. I use Maxell DVD-R single-use items. I buy the 250GB recorders because they hardly ever need the internal disc unit cleaned. The Toshiba recorders seldom have working DVD options to play or record shows.
