Today is a new day for my British Gas Electricity and Gas charges. The new tariff is 14M V1 and I signed in on http://www.britishgas.co.uk/identity then clicked the Account link and the Change Tariff link. The new tariffs were listed and I checked the charges and switched to 14M V1 today. Possible savings are based on lower rates and a switch to day charges and night charges for my meter to display when I am to update the meter readings on the website again.
Maybe I’ll save over £100 over the next 14 months of this fixed tariff yet having switched from the existing fixed tariff I won’t be charged any exit fees for switching. The new tariff has its own exit fees…
Despite being in credit, I decided to maintain the present monthly debit of £110 so it helps when the Winter usage increases.
The MSE Martin Lewis advice is to have some money above the actual usage costs in preparation for dramatic increases later this year.
Contract, 19th of June 2024 to 19th of August 2025.
So this is what the UK has become when the charges have basically doubled in the last few years…

As soon as the new tariff had become official, I got the emails to confirm the tariff and its day and night charges as well as the gas charges.
I waited until the following day and submitted my meter readings and noticed that there was an estimate for each reading already provided by British Gas, so I updated the account with just a few slight changes based on the overnight usage for electricity. The gas reading remained the same as I use the Microwave Oven most of the time but can’t get a fair deal regarding standing charges for very low usage.
While standing charges have been despised for years, they are being assessed by the authorities and yet the fiasco continues at our expense as if we haven’t got enough to deal with if we are disabled pensioners living alone…
