The Consumer Electronics videos have so many good TVs to promote when they’re brand new but a few years later and there’s one design fault or substandard part that can cause financial burdens. Some fault repairs tell us that the repairs cost more than the TVs did. The faults don’t just affect the budget TVs. Some famous TV company brand names are what helps customers which TVs to buy but modern production costs are causing cheap parts and TV panels to get sold alongside the best TVs yet for the same prices. As we approach the Black Friday sales we can easily get tricked into buying HD Ready TVs rather than 4K TVs. The operating systems and apps vary and get updates or get cancelled. So we are still gambling on the best TVs out there.
We expect inflation to increase TV prices but these increases trick us into buying budget TVs. The brand new installations can take a long time to get the apps registered before they offer us freebie home trials or subscription charges.
I’ve subscribed to Amazon Prime, Paramount Plus, Netflix, Disney and others. Even so, I get discount deals for the reduced number of Sky channels thanks to NOW TV. Even so, I pay for my 2TB eBay Sky+ HD set-top boxes and then subscribe to Sky Essentials to record and download shows to the Sky+ Planner hard drive. Just for my subscriptions that’s £19 a month. The other services add an extra £10 and more. The TV Licence Tax adds another £15 a month. That’s at least £1.50 every single day, but then another £35 a month for Broadband and phone line rental charges, too. That is about £80 a month or about £1,000 a year.
The minimum is £50 a month (£35 and £15) with no TV subscriptions services at all. For that, I get the free TV channels and free Radio channels and any extras the Smart TVs offer me such as 100 extra Internet TV channels… or more if I get the Netgem Netbox. This runs the autotune for Freeview yet adds over 100 Internet streaming TV channels while the TV apps have so many extra free TV channels. Internet devices such as ROKU or H96Max get a lot of extra apps worth checking.
So it is essential to get great 4K Smart TVs to appreciate the added costs of Internet set-top boxes or TV Stick devices. My Hisense 55″ and LG 50″ TVs have lasted for years. Today’s prices would be between £800 to £1,000 if we got these from RicherSounds for their 6-year warranty coverage.
