Why are you removing Sky Sports News. It’s brill programme. I can go upstairs and watch in peace while the females of the family watch all the other rubbish downstairs.
Well cheesed off with this news

Just another money grabbing move by Sky. It seems the consumer no longer matters. I will be gutted when it leaves Freeveiw but I am not going to pay Sky’s prices just for sport news.
Maybe the Beeb and/or ITV could fill the slot, it would be better than nothing.

I totally agree with the two comments above this I cant see Sky Sports New succeeding as a pay channel i think they will lose not gain viewers I also think Sky have made another error in taking the brilliant Soccer Saturday off Sky Sports 1 for this season. I think its time BBC OR ITV or someone got Eurosport or ESPN to launch a free to air service even highlights will do otherwise Freeview will go down the pan dont broadcasters realise there has been a recession and not everyone including me wants Pay tv eh

basically its sky sulking because offcom or someone like them has upset them ,it may backfire on them if the bbc and other channels take advantage of this gross error.

Daylight robbery! I’ve never had sky and never will be held to ransom by them. Even my parents have just cancelled theirs and they were paying over £70 a month. My local pub had to cancel theirs after Sky demanded £1500 a month. I hope more people follow suit then maybe Sky might make it more affordable to normal folk.

This is basically Sky givin the two fingers to Ofcom. This follows the Ofcom ruling that Sky must unbundle their sports packages (which is why BT Vision now show Sky Sports 1 and 3. That ruling ultimately means that the monopoly Sky has is being threatened. Therefore in a move of defiance Sky now remove the Sky sports news channel from freeview, meaning most people, including those who have BT vision will not get Sky Sports news.

My view is that in time Ofcom will impose further sanctions on Sky which will ultimately be better for us as consumers as it will mean lower prices.

I can’t believe Sky sports news is leaving freeview! It can only be for one reason though and that is money.
I agree with other comments on here sky are just money grabbers and I don’t believe for one minute they are doing it in the interest of the customer.
I won’t be buying one of their packages just to get the sports news channel, can’t afford it!
Shame on sky, let’s hope people wise up and cancel their subscriptions in droves!
Me, I’m staying with my freeview!

What a bunch of c*%ts!!! After all it’s just news, sports news!! I can’t believe they want people to pay for a news channel.
I mean I like Sky sports news but as far as paying for it goes, it’s not going to happen. I’ll just have to go back to listening in on the radio.
Every time you think we move forward in the human race, we move 12 steps back, why is this? Simple……………..MONEY!!! the world would be such a better place if it wasn’t for the greed, that runs the world we live in.

Just because its “News” doesnt mean it isnt a core part of sky’s sports lineup. No other provider gives a dedicated channel to sport and im surprised sky gives away any of its dedicated channels to freeview when they’ll gain very little. If anyone has a problem with the choice to get rid of it then just look online for your results or subscribe to sky. Sky Sports News isnt subscription only, its included in the sports package so they dont expect people to pay extra.
If you’re too cheap to pay to refuse to pay more than the tv licence, then dont expect handouts.

Sky loves to publicise the choice they give to viewing customers, of course that statement comes with the proviso that you choose them. I don’t but many of my friends do and are heartily sick of their policy of structuring packages to extract the maximum from customers by for example splitting the sports channels into different packages and spreading key events across them. Ofcom’s recent ruling was long overdue and the Sky response was predictable, upset Mr. Murdoch at your peril. Competition is good but only on their terms. With those thoughts in mind it is sobering to see how much reliance the Premier League places on this source of income and the organisation providing it.

i am absolutely disgusted that sky sports news is getting taken off freeview, i was with sky for 4 years and paid 82 quid every month, got fed up with it and changed suppliers, hopefully a lot more people will do this and teach sky that people will not be held to ransom by them, they are nothing but moneygrabbers, they make an massive profit as it is without doing this

sky sky sky… i believe they just declared a few billions of profit earlier this month, they are just inviting more wrath from ofcom who wld be further determined to break their monopoly, and make the barrier to entry lower for new entrants, sky wld lose in the end, for sure

Purely another money grabbing exercise from Sky, I was a Sky Pioneer in the early days (remember the white dish and the SRX Amstrad).
I left them a year ago, their prices are unafordable, we have Freeview and Freesat both with SKY+ style recorders.
This will be a gross error, mark my words now there will be a call for it some bright spark will develop a pirate card for it.
It happened before with the “Season” series cards and I suspect it will happen again.
Remember this you Clowns at Sky whatever gets encrypted can be decrypted….

When ITV launched ONdigital in 1998 as a direct rival to BSkyB, Sky in an effort to bomb ITV out of the water started to give their set-top boxes away for free(not really as you had to enter into a contract). As ONdigital had just exclusively secured the Football League to a contract they were hamstrung as their platform was all about free-to-view commercial content with secondary subscription events(footy, films & f***ing). Cue Ondigital going belly-up & BSkyB hoovering up the now redundant football league contract, further minimising competition. Sky have just bought the Virgin TV content, channel 20 on F’view, which will be re-branded as Channel One…many analysts believe they’ll transmit low-grade material just to degrade the Freeview platform & try to push viewers onto their subscription platform.

I think Sky have messed up as advertisers won’t like it that their advertising slots on Sky Sports News will now be watched in much smaller numbers. Sometimes its about visibility boys, Sky will have no exposure now to about 80% of the UK TV viewing market…how many of these people will move onto subscription?

I watch all the new TV shows online by downloading from FREE internet websites, Sky unfortunately won’t be able to win this war!

This is petty and will do Sky no good in the long run. Sky Sports News appeals to advertisers due to its high viewing numbers . Not just domestic freeview housholds, but ,hotels, sports clubs, fitness centers etc. You can guaruntee if the BBC announced the launch of a BBC Sports News Channel,Sky would change their policy very quickly.

I’m still searching for info of how to get sky sports news either free again, or very low priced. If it was say, a maximum of £10 a month, then I might consider this package. But if sky want me to have a larger package then forget it. This (old ’83’) is all I want from them – mainly for Saturday afternoons!

    Hi Jim,

The channel isn’t available for free any more.

If you want to watch Sky Spoorts News, but don;t want to pay for a full Sky subscription, you can consider watching online using the Sky Player Internet service – see https://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/redirect.php?id=skyplayer

I know its after aug 23rd when writing this but I`ve just seen this message due to me scailing down my sky packages due to the extortionate prices it as risen to (been with them for over 10yrs)I got rid of sky sports as I didn’t watch it anymore & watched sky sports news on saturdays only & yet I still don`t want all the channels,

so time as come to stop sky all together & get the BT freeview box as I got the internet with free BT SPORT with it, I have watched more football matches.

    ENGLISH: premier & conferance.
    ENGLISH: WSL (womans super league.
    SCOTTISH: premier & league 1.
MLS: major league soccer in USA.
plus football from france, Germany, Italy.

SO BT FREEVIEW HERE I COME.
