ESPN replaces Setanta

Posted on 24 June 2009 By Radio&Telly 5 Comments on ESPN replaces Setanta

As reported, Setanta Sports went off-air yesterday, 23rd June, after going into administration.

ESPN logoDisney-owned sports service ESPN has just bought up the rights to show 46 Premier League matches from the 2009/2010 football season, and it seems that they have geared up very quickly to offer ESPN on existing services

Tonight, Freeview channel 34, previously occupied by Setanta, is showing the ESPN America. To view this, you either need a Top Up TV Anytime box or a Freeview box / IDTV that has a TopUp or Setanta card. ESPN is being offered free to Top Up TV subscribers, but it’s not clear how long for.

Seems that ESPN has been quick to fill the void offered by Setanta.

More when we have it.

this explains why i was watching baseball last night on a non-existent channel (setanta ch34).
Hopefully ESPN will remain on freeview, either for free or around the price of setanta. It would be nice to see some action from the other side of the pond. More NASCAR/NBL and a smidge of premiership football and I'm a happy bunny!

On Tuesday this week i did a rescan of my freeview box. A new tv channel name appeared: Trove (on 306). There is no picture and no sound. Does anyone know what this is?

I believe that Trove is some sort of text service offering games and news etc. However, as for the picture I am not sure whether it is something that is coming soon, like Quest, which appeared months before the scheduled release date, which has been postponed.
